How Do I Know What God Wants Me To Do?

Couple reading map while leaning on car hood during road tripI would do what God wants me to do if He would just tell me! Ever had that frustrating thought? If only it could be as easy as asking Siri. Hey Siri (fill in God’s name), should I take this new job? Hey Siri (fill in God’s name), should I marry this guy? Move to Iowa? Put my kid in this school or that one? I have often, in frustration, wanted a quick answer and wished I could google it or shoot a quick text to heaven.

Did you know that your heavenly father wants to answer your prayer for direction as badly as you want to have it answered? God does not have a huge road map of your life that He is trying to hide from you. Our enemy wants us to think that God is not listening or worse that He is listening but doesn’t want to answer. No, our God wants to reveal His plan for us.

Psalms 32:8 says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go: I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”

Our Father is an all-knowing Daddy who wants to reveal His plans. We are not called to just fumble around by our human instincts and reasoning. He wants to scoop us up in His loving arms and tell us the next step to take. We can know His plans by running them by what the Bible tells us. It’s His written word spoken to His people.

Jeremiah 29:11 “. . . For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

James 1:5: “If any one of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”

Generously! He wants us to know. How do we hear from Him? We stay in the word and know what He has promised us. We surround ourselves with like-minded believers who know His word. We remind ourselves of how He has shown us the way in the past. We trust that our heavenly Father is working on our behalf. We shut out the world’s voice by listening to TRUTH instead of a humanistic agenda.

Your Father’s wisdom is closer than you think. He is waiting for you to come to Him, sit with Him, and know Him.
