One, two, three . . . SLIDE! Ever play that board game where your game piece is advanced more quickly because you hit a space on the board that propels you forward? Oh sure, the black dots on the dice you rolled declare the number four, but when you move your piece and count out the next four spaces, that fourth space has a special symbol that denotes the slide rule. Before you know it, you are way past the fourth space and onto the ninth or tenth space. You rejoice over the fortunate event as your enemy rolls his eyes or in many cases yells, “No fair!”
God has given His children an unfair advantage on this earth. Because of His sacrifice on the cross, the enemy no longer has dominion over our lives. The grace that He gives us is accompanied with his favor. Not only do we receive a “get out of jail free” card, but we get a life full of abundance, opportunity, and advancement (for my non-Monopoly players, it’s a great card to draw). He has saved us from the jail of hell, but that’s not all He provides us with a life here on earth filled with favor. Favor . . . the word reminds us of the word favorite. How can we all be God’s favorite? He’s just that big.
Psalm 5:12—For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover him with favor as with a shield.
Psalm 84:11—For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.
John 1:16—And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.
Psalm 112:6-10—For the righteous will never be moved; he will be remembered forever. He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord. His heart is steady; he will not be afraid, until he looks in triumph over his adversaries. He has distributed freely; he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn is exalted in honor. The wicked man sees it and is angry; he gnashes his teeth and melts away; the desire of the wicked will perish!
