I always loved doing dot to dots when I was a kid. It was easy and had such a fun element of expectation as I went from 1 to 2 to 3. Sometimes the numbers would lead me way up to the top of the page and then straight down to the bottom. Sometimes the numbers had my pencil lines going back and forth from left to right, then back to the left only to head straight back to the right again. My elementary-aged mind would wonder, “Did the guy who made this one mess up?” Moments later I would realize that the creator of the dot to dot had me completing ribbon laces on a ballerina’s toe shoe.
It was very entertaining to not know exactly how the picture would turn out until it was finished. Going from one number to the next was never difficult, I just had to follow the number right ahead of me and not be tempted to create my own freestyle picture. Even when it didn’t make sense, the picture always turned out better than I could’ve imagined.
Isn’t God so good to us to direct our steps? One step at a time.
In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps. -Proverbs 16:9
