Don’t you just love new beginnings? A crisp, white, blank piece of notebook paper, brand new crayons that still have their pointy ends, or how about the delicate new feet of a precious baby that have never touched dirt or soil? Our human hearts long for and feel invigorated when we see a clean, fresh start before us. Because we grow weary and need rest, God has so graciously promised us that at the end of our days, He will not only watch over us while we sleep but will greet us with a new beginning each and every day.
The Bible tells us that His mercies are new EVERY morning (Lamentations 3:24). As we wake not only do we get a fresh start, but we are given all the mercy and provision that we need for that 24-hour time period. Isn’t it comforting that He prepares for our day all that we will need ahead of time? It’s like we get to wake up to a pre-packed, daily, extravagant survival kit. Before we have any idea what will unfold in our day, He has already packed the answer for us.
In a typical day, we have needs and wants that He has prepared to meet for us. For example we may have a day that goes something like this:
7:00 a.m. — He provides water needed for our shower.
7:20 a.m. — He supplies patience needed to deal with our child that left his shoes in his locker.
7:30 a.m. — He downloads a new fresh word from our Bible reading that renews our mind for the day.
8:00 a.m. — More patience is given because our other child is hitting his sibling.
8:30 a.m. — Forgiveness is handed down because we need to apply it to the Buick that just cut us off in traffic.
You get the idea. All day long we have access to what we need for that specific day. Just like a loving mother pre-plans the lunchbox menu days before she hits the grocery store, brings the groceries home, makes the sandwich, and places it in the previously bought Ziploc . . . what was once just an idea on a shopping list is all taken care of. He is in the details of our lives and is there with all the answers that we need. Sleep well tonight with no worries of tomorrow. Your Father has a fresh start waiting for you.
